Egypt's Suez Canal maintains normal shipping under military guard
EGYPT's military is to maintain normal shipping on the Suez Canal through military aircraft and naval vessels at each end of the canal to prevent disruption by protestors since the ousting of Islamist President Morsi.
Since the Cairo protest between pro- and anti-Morsi supporters left 100 dead and 1,500 injured, violence has continued to flare up in areas including Sinai, adjacent to the Suez Canal and bordering Israel which Egypt holds peace with since 1979.
The Qasr el-Nil bridge which leads to Tahrir square is protected by Egyptian guards ahead of mass protest to support the army.
