DP World San Antonio, a multipurpose port terminal with an annual capacity of 1.25 million TEU, has implemented the latest version of Identec Solutions' Reefer Runner, becoming the first terminal in Chile to use this technology.
The company has over the past four years been exploring ways to cut the workload of reefer management by automating monitoring and capturing energy data, reported London's Port Technology.
DP World San Antonio's senior operations manager Maurico Argandona was quoted as saying: 'The implementation of an automated reefer monitoring and management tool was important to our company because it allows these activities to be done remotely.'
According to Mr Argandona the system minimises 'all risks related to injuries to personnel' and provides 'information online, making operations more robust and finally allows detailed measurement of the consumption of each type of refrigerated cargo, which delivers us valuable information to perform carbon footprint analysis by type of load.'
