DP World has begun development of a new free trade warehousing zone (FTWZ) on a 44-acre site at Jawaharlal Nehru port's (JNP) Nhava Sheva business park, using funding from Hindustan Infralog Private Limited (HIPL), a joint venture between the terminal operator and India's National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF).
DP World aims to offer more reliable and faster cargo movement and improved supply chain efficiencies through the FTWZ.
DP World chairman Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said the facility would provide a 'compelling one-stop solution for our customers' and said the investment would provide a boost to the local economy and generate jobs, reported The Maritime Standard, Dubai.
A spokesman for JNPT added: 'This warehouse will be a strategic asset for our special economic zone and the companies investing here because it will provide warehousing for various products, state-of-the-art equipment, transportation and handling facilities for our traders.'
In a separate development, JNPT announced the completion of the deepening of the JN port-Mumbai harbour channel to accommodate containerships of up to 12,500 TEU, after dredging the existing channel from 14 metres to 15 metres draft.
