Diana Containerships posted a third quarter net profit of US$1.4 million after suffering a $700,000 loss in the same period a year ago. This year's quarterly revenue was $13 million, which increased 18 per cent.
Time charter revenue in the third quarter rose by $500,000 to $39 million in the first nine months of the year against the same January - September period in 2013.
Revenue increases came despite a decrease in ownership days compared to the same period in 2013. Diana Containership's quarterly expansion by three vessels helped offset the decrease in ownership days.
Diana Containership's 10-vessel fleet includes four postpanamaxes and six panamaxes. The Marshall Islands-based company will expand its fleet to 11 vessels at the end of the month when it acquires a 5,000-TEU panamax vessels through a separate wholly owned subsidiary.
The Santa Pamina, which was acquired for $16 million, will be chartered to the Shipping Corporation of India at $9,500 day.
