Damen dredger available for direct sale exclusively for the Turkish market
Design of Cutter Suction Dredger 500 draws on distinguished Dutch dredging experience
Damen Shipyards Group is proud to present a Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) 500 ready for direct purchase exclusively for the Turkish market. The powerful vessel uses an internationally renowned design that is capable of multiple applications such as dredging navigation channels, capital construction projects and land reclamation works. The vessel’s versatility is reflected in the diversity of potential clients which include port authorities, construction companies and marine contractors.
“We built this vessel and transported it to Turkey on a speculative basis on anticipated market opportunities,” says Damen Sales Director Turkey Boran Bekbulat. “We have received many enquiries and interest in this dredger. We believe that the Turkish dredging market is ready to gear up using modern and efficient technology.
“If you take a look to the number of projects and their growing sizes, this is an opportunity for companies looking to invest for their future using a modern and powerful tool. With a mixture capacity of 4000 m3/h, this Cutter Suction Dredger certainly has the potential to give the developing local marine contracting industry a boost. A real investment for the future that could give a Turkish company the competitive edge in the local and international market!”
It is important to note that Damen plans to move the dredger out of Turkey within a couple of months. This is because the company has received a large amount of interest in the vessel elsewhere: “For example, we have recently sold more than 10 vessels of this type to various clients all over the world,” continues Mr Bekbulat.
“Furthermore, we are looking for a quick sale so we are offering the vessel at an extremely competitive price where the transportation costs for a Turkish buyer are minimal. This will not be a bidding process. Rather first-come, first-served.”
Damen’s CSD 500 has a dredging depth of -14 metres which can be increased to -16 metres and a swing width of just under 40 metres. It is a 39 metre long vessel installed with a 954 kW Caterpillar engine running the dredge pump. The cutting power of the cutter is 180 kW. The vessel is available with a number of optional extras which include an anchor boom installation for autonomous anchor handling, a stern swivel for smooth connection to the discharge pipeline and a non-return valve in the discharge pipeline.
With almost 100 CSDs sold over the years, Damen has taken customer feedback on board to continually improve its designs. The results optimise dredging performance while addressing important issues relating to operator ergonomics and comfort. Today, the company holds a strong and respected position in the global dredging sector. This can be seen in last year’s sales figures: Damen sold twelve CSDs in 2015.
Damen’s established presence in the dredging industry brings further benefits to clients. “The relationships that we have with our clients continue long after the delivery of a vessel,” concludes Mr Bekbulat. “Dredging is a tough business. So, as well as offering an efficient spare parts service, we can also provide maintenance services through our worldwide service network.”
