Court orders Haifa dockers back to work after privatisation strike
DOCKERS at Israel's state-owned Port of Haifa ended a strike over privatisation after a labour court sent them back to work and ordered fresh talks with employers over working conditions.
The Finance Ministry prompted the walkout by announcing a three-year privatisation plan for state-owned companies that calls for selling off Ashdod port in 2015 and Haifa port in 2016.
Tensions have been high in recent years over government plans to open two privately run ports next to Ashdod and Haifa, reports Reuters.
The one day strike caused disruption, with 20 ships waiting to unload and a long line of trucks forming outside the port.
