COSCO Shipping has named its newest 20,119-TEU containership, the 202,000-dwt Cosco Shipping Gemini built and delivered by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co (DSIC).
Cosco chief financial officer Sun Yueyin named the vessel, at a ceremony attended by industry officials; including the president of the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporate Sun Bo, Communist Party secretary of Cosco Shipping Lines Quan Weizhong and chairman and Communist Party secretary of DSIC Liu Zheng.
The ship has an overall length of 400 metres - the length of four football fields - and is 58.6 metres wide at its widest.
French shipping giant CMA CGM said the Gemini will provide better flexibility in container loading, along with improved payloads of reefer and dangerous cargo - including heavy and high cube containers, reports London's Port Technology International.
