Cosco Pacific June volumes up 4.5pc to 8m TEU
CONTAINER terminals operator, Cosco Pacific, has announced that box throughput in June has continued to rise with overall volumes gaining 4.5 per cent to 7.9 million TEU led by good growth in its overseas terminals and the rapidly growing Southwest Coast and Southeast Coast ports.
However, the overall performance was dragged down by the mature ports in the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta, according to Seatrade Maritime, Colchester.
Overseas terminals saw a 31.1 per cent rise in throughput to 1.1 million TEU while the sole port in the Southwest cluster for now, Guangxi Qinzhou International Container Terminal saw volumes rise 61 per cent to 87,700 TEU. On the Southeast Coast, throughput rose 25.2 per cent to 394,600 TEU.
At the key Bohai Rim region, throughput rose a steady 5.7 per cent to 2.8 million TEU. In the Yangtze River Delta however, volumes fell once again by 3.1 per cent to 1.6 million TEU and the Pearl River Delta also continued its slow trend, with volumes sliding 6.4 per cent to 1.9 million TEU.
For the first half of the year, Cosco Pacific posted a 3.5 per cent growth in throughput to 46.03 million TEU.
