A coaster ship carrying sand sank on early Wednesday morning after it collided with another ship at Black Sea, off the shore of İstanbul's coastal village of Riva.
Turkish news agencies reported on Wednesday that two ships cruising on the Black Sea collided around 2:00 a.m. near İstanbul's Riva village located in Beykoz district.
The coaster, named Akel, sank with 10 crewmen on board after having collided without another Turkish flag coaster, Sengul K.
Emergency teams and a salvage tug from the Directorate General for Coastal Safety (DGCS) were dispatched to the area, along with boats from the Turkish Coast Guard Command.
Search and rescue teams saved nine of Akel's crew but one went missing. Two crewmen of the other ship were also rescued safely.At around 6: a.m., the missing crewman from Akel was reportedly found dead. Another crewman from Akel was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The authorities are investigating the causes of the collision.
