The 'CSL Virginia', which ad sailed from Genova on Sep 23, 2018, and was anchored north of Cap Corse at the northern Corsica peninsula in the Tyrrhenian Sea since, was struck by the Tunisian ferry 'Ulysse', which was en route from Genoa to Tunis on Oct 7 at 7.30 a.m. with a speed of 19 knots. The container ship suffered a several meters gap at starboard side. The ferry’s bow suffered damages too. An oil sheen emerged around the ships. The emergency tug 'Abeille Flandre' was deployed to the accident site from Villefranche-sur-Mer. A team of echnical expertes was taken to the ships in the afternoon aboard an NH 90 helicopter of the French Navy. Also the 'BSAD Jason' from Toulon and the 'NOS Taurus' from Livorno were deployed with anti-pollution equipment on board. An Atr 42 was monitoring the area. Furthermore, three Italian naval vessels were sent on the directive of the Italian Minister of the Environment, the 'Castalia' the 'Bonassola' from Genoa and the 'Koral' from Olbia.
