CANADIAN National Railway (CN) has unveiled plans to spend US$111 million in network improvements across three US states this year, as part of its $2.9 billion capital investment plan.
The class I railway plans to invest $50 million in Michigan, $45 million in Mississippi and $16 million in Kentucky. The investments in all three states include maintenance work on bridges, culverts, signal systems and other track infrastructure, reported American Shipper.
In Michigan, CN will replace track, install 50,000 new rail ties and rebuild 32 road crossing surfaces. It further plans to replace eight miles of the 575 miles it operates in Mississippi, install 75,000 new rail ties and rebuild 20 road-crossing surfaces. In Kentucky, where it operates 98 miles of track, install 30,000 new railway ties.
The latest announcements bring the railway operator's 2019 capital expenditure plan to $700 million spread across eight states. It also said it would invest $80 million in Minnesota and $505 million in capital projects across Illinois, Louisiana, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
