THE CMA CGM Group, one of the world's leading container shipping companies, has announced that it is upgrading its Gulfbridge service between the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean area, as well as optimising its Hispaniola feeder service to improve it Caribbean coverage.
In order to adapt the group's offer to its clients' demand, the French shipping line will decrease the transit times of its Gulfbridge service to Colombia.
The service first rotation of the amended service will start on April 29, in New Orleans, with the vessel Frisia Loga.
Vessels with a capacity of 2,500 TEU will call at ports in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea and make east and west South American coast calls through its Kingston transshipment hub.
Starting early May, the port calls frequency of the Hispaniola feeder service will be increased. The main ports will be called at weekly, to "promote reefer containers transportation", a company statement said.
"With the frequency increase and the Kingston, Pointe-a-Pitre and Point Lisas port hubs connection, the service reliability will be improved. Transit times from Kingston will be reduced."
Two 850-TEU and 1,150-TEU vessels will be placed on the following rotation: Kingston, Port-au-Prince, Cap Haitian (Haiti), Philipsburg (Saint Marteen), Saint Johns (Antigua), Pointe-a-Pitre (Guadeloupe), Fort-de-France (Martinique), Roseau (Dominique), Camden Park (Saint-Vincent les Grenadines), Saint George (Grenada), Point Lisas (Trinidad & Tobago), Bridgetown (Barbados), Castries (Saint-Lucia), returning to Kingston.
Said CMA CGM vice president Jean-Yves Duval: "The Caribbean is an area with a strong growth. The Panama Canal widening, expected to be completed in 2016, proves it and the arrival of larger vessels it implies a regional services adaptation need.
"Those improved services will be connected to our new Kingston hub, and will allow the CMA CGM Group to continue improving."
