CMA CGM's US$225/TEU Zanzibar congestion charge for 3-week delays
FRENCH shipping major CMA CGM is to implement an emergency operation surcharge in Zanzibar as increasingly severe port congestion causes delays of up to 21 days, which the carrier says is beyond its control.
CMA CGM will implement the surcharge for all shipments until further notice from the United Arab Emirates (Dubai and Khor Fakkan) to Zanzibar, the American Journal of Transportation reported.
The surcharge of US$225 per TEU is prepaid and payable at origin, the company said, adding that it will come into effect from Jumme Trader's voyage 1132SS ETA Khor Fakkan on July 3, 2016, and Jebel Ali on July 5, 2016.
