THE Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has unveiled plans to complete three new terminals by 2025. They are a 1,500-metre-long multipurpose terminal and two container terminals, one with a 1,225-metre berth and the other with a berth of 800 metres.
At present, containerships are managing to berth within one or two days of arriving at the outer anchorage of the port thanks to the deployment of a number of new gantry cranes that has helped speed up operations, reported Splash 247.
The turnaround time for vessels at Chittagong port was seven to eight days in 2017 when congestion reached its peak.
The port handled a record 2.9 million TEU in 2018, an increase of nine per cent year on year.
