China's express delivery sector has increased courier fees in major e-commerce centres to curb damaging price wars, with surcharges rising in Yiwu and Guangdong, reports Hong Kong's South china Morning Post.
Postal authorities lifted the minimum delivery surcharge in Yiwu, Zhejiang province, by RMB0.2 (0.3 US cents) at the end of July. In Guangdong, rates rose by RMB0.4 from August, according to Guotai Haitong Securities.
Analysts said the move could ease pressure on operators in the short term, though weak demand may see intense competition persist.
The adjustments mainly affect e-commerce clients and are expected to have little impact on individual consumers, Shanghai-based Yicai reported.
