CERES Terminals has announced a new permanent pop-up container yard in the Greater Houston area to keep US congestion at bay, reports London's Port Technology.
The new 75-acre terminal depot will be adjacent to Port Houston's Barbours Cut Terminal.
The company declared the new yard will be vital at a time when the US market is facing an imbalance in imports versus exports.
'We are excited to announce the opening of the new container yard,' said ceres Terminals chief operations officer Adam Brooks.
'This yard will provide our customers with much-needed near-dock capacity as well as supply chain efficiencies which we hope will relieve some of the stress on the container terminal.'
Ceres' new yard aims to provide grounded container services to help the industry maximize chassis efficiencies.
On March 1, Ceres signed a 20-year US$60 million agreement to lease and modernise the TraPac Jacksonville container terminal at JAXPORT.
