CHINA's CDB Leasing has purchased two 9,400-TEUers, the MSC Elma (built 2016) and MSC Romane (2017), from HNA Group's SinoOceanic Shipping for US$172.78 million.
The pair of vessels will be leased for a period of 12 years to Conglomerate Maritime Ltd, a Guernsey company that is affiliated with Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) reported Singapore's Splash 247.
The carrier's fleet growth in recent years has been propelled by partnering with Chinese leasors. MSC has closed the gap with Maersk Line but still remains 456,130 TEU of slots behind its 2M alliance partner, according to Alphaliner data.
