A guard was placed aboard the "A" to ensure the ship remained in Gibraltar where she was detained due to unpaid invoices totaling € 15.29 million. This money should have been handed over when the yacht was delivered to representants of the owner on Feb 5 in Kiel, the day when the ship left the German Naval Yard which is part of the Nobiskrug Group. The shipyard was to receive 9.8 million Euros, two invoices of 2.9 and 2.6 million Euros are still open from suppliers. Since no money was received by the parent company of the German Naval Yards, the Nobiskrug Group until Feb 5, the shipyard commissioned the renowned law firm Triay Stagnetto Neish in Gibraltar to take legal action. The attorneys reached an arrest against the registered owner of the vessel, the Valla Yachts Ltd., on the Bermudas, at the Supreme Court on Feb 15. The company operates the ship on behalf of the Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko. The yacht was moored at an anchor place in the territory of the "Admirality Marshals" on Feb 16. The bay is in the jurisdiction of the justice of Gibraltar. The island is not only favorable for fuel purchases, but is also one of the first addresses for sales, seizures and arrivals of ships of all kinds. The administration of the port of Gibraltar promotes international with the fast and efficient justice: "We have a very good Admirality Marshal, who has been in the industry for many years - so we can get the best possible price for the ship." The seizure procedure of the shipyard was made easier by the fact that the owner of the "Sailing Yacht A" transferred the ship from the German register to the register of the Bermuda Islands before the departure from Kiel. The island group, like Gibraltar, is a British overseas area, which clarifies many formalities more quickly and ships can easier be arrested. On Feb 21 a trial will take place in Gibraltar. A spokesman of the owner dismissed all allegations and said to be surprised by the yard's approach.
