The 'OOCL Japan' suffered a steering failure on June 6, 2018, at noon in the Suez Canal near kilometer mark 18. The ship veered off the fairway and struck the embankment, while transiting the canal in northern direction. Several dozen meters of the parallel road collapsed, and a passing car of the Suez Canal Authority fell into a gap in the street and had to be recovered with a crane which was mobilized to the accident site. Luckily no one was injured. The 'OOCL Japan' which was stuck in the embankment could quickly be pulled off again by tugs. The Northbound convoy had to slow down to near stop timewise but resumed moving at normal speed within about half an hour. The 'OOCL Japan' which had suffered minor damages continued the voyage from Singapore to Felixstowe, ETA June 14. Arabian report with photos: www.masrawy.com/n...
