Brazil Arrests Cargo Ship Looters
Brazilian officials have made arrests after people in boats looted floating cargo containers that fell from a cargo ship near the Brazilian Port of Santos, according to the BBC. Brazilian-registered containership Log in Pantanal lost 45 containers at night during a storm on Aug 10-11 on outer Santos anchorage. The vessel is owned and operated by freight forwarder Log-In Logistics, according to containership-info. Containers broke open upon impact with the water, remained adrift and sent cargo floating. Local people had gone out in small boats to the floating containers, removing consumer goods including bike wheels and clothing. Police reported thieves were attempting to take away air-conditioning units, other white goods, clothing, hospital equipment and backpacks. Police chased two speed boats loaded with goods and arrested 11. Social media videos showed the ship rolling heavily in a large swell.
