HONG KONG Marine Department is urging vessels to proceed with caution for the next 30 months while dredging operations are being carried out inside the Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter in the island's Victoria Harbour.
The scope of the marine works involve temporary reclamation, construction of a temporary seawall and construction of a tunnel.
The works are to be carried out by a flotilla of vessels including one grab dredger, four hopper barges, seven derrick barges, some tugs and work boats, according to Marine Department Notice No 167 of 2015.
A working area of 15 metres is being established around each barge and 50 metres around the dredger, and a silt curtain, extending from the sea surface to the seabed, is to be established within the works area. The silt curtain is a large piece of netting used to contain mud and sediments.
Yellow markers fitted with yellow flashing lights are to be laid out around all three special areas to mark the extent of the work areas.
The hours of work is from 0700 to 2300 hours. Vessels engaged in the works will remain in the works area outside working hours.
