Cargo volumes at the Port of Baku surged to their highest level in more than two decades, with over 6.1 million tons transshipped in the first nine months of 2025, reports the Port of Baku.
The figure marks a 6.7 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, according to Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, which oversees the port as part of AZCON Holding.
Container handling saw the sharpest rise, with 77,295 TEU processed - up 40.4 per cent year-on-year. Dry cargo volumes grew by 36.7 per cent, while wheeled vehicle throughput edged up by 1.3 per cent.
Officials expect the upward trend to continue, citing improved international corridor integration, stronger partner cooperation and new logistics initiatives. Container throughput is projected to reach 100,000 TEU by year-end.
Following the port's integration with Azerbaijan Railways, its annual handling capacity rose from 100,000 TEU to 150,000 TEU without additional investment, aimed at boosting national transit capabilities.
