SECURITY contractor Protection Vessels International (PVI), providing shipboard armed guards, announced that it has won ISO/PAS 28007 certification from Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA).
This makes it one of the few in the ISO/PAS 28007 pilot scheme to show that its personnel are the right quality to legally and safely guard shipping on the high seas, said the company.
The ISO/PAS 28007 (annexed to the ISO 28000 Security Management Systems for the Supply Chain) has provided a framework for a set of standards created to help ship operators decide on risk assessment.
The LRQA audit involves assessing the PMSC's risk management and security management as well as it legal, corporate infrastructure, operations management, incident management, training, recruitment and audit systems.
Said PVI managing director Eric Conway: "As the largest PMSC, we believe standards are central to the development of private maritime security, and critical to safeguarding the assets transiting high-risk areas."
The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is the sole British body recognised by government to assess evaluating organisations, such as certification bodies including LRQA, against international standards.
UKAS began assessment of the certification bodies' in June 2013 and has now closed the pilot process, allowing certification bodies to issue official UKAS accredited certification to qualifying PMSCs.
