Jordan's aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) has received the Port Environmental Review System (PERS) certification from the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO), making it the first port in the Middle East to join the accredited EcoPorts network, reported Jordan News Agency.
ACT said the certification confirms its commitment to international environmental standards. The recognition followed a rigorous audit process that assessed environmental policies, risk analysis, legal compliance, resource allocation, and reporting accuracy.
CEO Harald Nijhoff called the milestone a testament to ACT's dedication to sustainability and operational excellence. He said the terminal submitted over 64 pieces of evidence during the audit, demonstrating its adherence to ESPO's environmental management system.
The certification supports ACT's goal of becoming a sustainable logistics hub aligned with global environmental trends. The terminal has implemented practices to maintain a clean marine and land-based work environment and ensure full compliance with environmental regulations.
ACT's inclusion in the EcoPorts network is expected to enhance its role in promoting green economy initiatives and improving operational efficiency through environmentally friendly methods.
