US TECH giant apple is moving some iPad production out of China and shifting it to Vietnam after lockdowns led to months of supply chain disruptions, reports London's Financial Times.
The company has also asked multiple component suppliers to build up their inventories to guard against future shortages and supply snags, sources said.
China's BYD, one of the leading iPad assemblers, has helped Apple build production lines in Vietnam and could soon start to produce a small number of the tablets there, people with knowledge of the matter said.
Apple has long considered building some iPads outside of China, as reported by Nikkei Asia, but the sudden surge in Covid cases in Vietnam delayed plans to follow through.
American sportswear giant Nike has informed mainland Chinese users that it will end its running and working out app, Nike Run Club (NRC), service in the country next month
This move follows similar announcements in China from Kindle, Airbnb and LinkedIn, reports Hong Kong's South China Morning Post.
NRC, along with the Nike Training Club (NTC) app, notified mainland Chinese users that they would halt operations as of July 8 'due to business reasons.'
While Nike did not provide further details on why it was stopping the services, the decision comes just months after Beijing implemented two new laws, the Personal Information Protection Law and Data Security Law, which affect apps collecting personal data in China and the export of such data overseas.
