US-flagged vessel, APL Saipan has arrived in Saipan to deliver relief supplies to support recovery efforts on the island that was battered by super typhoon Yutu.
The shipment is for the American Red Cross and Federal Emergency Management Agency who are delivering emergency food and water to typhoon victims across Saipan.
'APL is devoted to our community and has deployed our resources to help meet immediate relief and recovery needs on the island,' said Guam-Micronesia general manager Charlie Hermosa.
'Our corporate partners have come together with donations which APL has started shipping to Saipan. Our partner outreach is ongoing and we will be delivering aid in the weeks ahead to help Saipan residents recover,' Mr Hermosa said.
Arriving from Guam, the ship was laden with four containers of food, water and equipment donated by partner organisations. This shipment marks the first of more relief cargo which the shipping line will transport from Guam as it continues to rally commercial and community organisations to support the relief programme.
While APL only ships to Saipan via its Guam Saipan Express service, the ocean liner has been actively connecting donors and stakeholders to assist with relief efforts in Tinian. 'By connecting the right parties quickly we facilitate in getting the much-needed help to Tinian sooner than later,' added Mr Hermosa.
