Antwerp gives planning permission for MSC Deurganck Dock developmentANTWERP Port Authority has approved the Mediterranean Shipping Co's (MSC) request to move its activities and develop the Deurganck Dock area following limited expressions of interest (EOI).Geneva-based MSC, part of the proposed P3 mega alliance, has been at Antwerp's Delwaide Dock, but asked to move to Deurganck after its throughput reached 4.6 million TEU against the old dock's capacity of 5.4 million TEU. The Delwaide's Berendrecht Lock with its 13.58 metres depth is too small for P3 Network's 16,000 and 18,000 TEUers, reports Colchester, England's Seatrade Global. As "no alternatives of similar importance" were proposed, which might clash with MSC and P3 trade in Deurganck, a feasibility discussion between Antwerp management committee and the carrier has begun.
