Seven people have been rescued from life rafts after abandoning the "Fluvius Tamar" near Kent in the night of Jan 13, 2017. An emergency call came shortly before midnight. The ship was taking on water rapidly. By the time the crew finished the mayday call, they didn't make it to the life rafts. An extensive rescue operation was launched at 11.54 p.m. after the vessel went down 38 miles NE of Ramsgate. Rescue helicopters, a lifeboat, and Dutch helicopter and several merchant vessels all came to the aid of the sinking ship. Ships nearby managed to reach the stranded crew first, but a merchant ship near the scene was unable to deploy its fast rescue inflatable craft because of the conditions. Weather conditions were challenging with severe gale-force NW winds of nine Beaufort. All crew members were airlifted to hospital to hospital by the Coastguard Search and Rescue helicopter based at Lydd with potential hypothermia but no serious injuries. e UK Coastguard tasked the lifeboat crew to search for the sunken vessel’s Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPERB) which they located and recovered and after being stood down returned to Ramsgate, arriving on Jan 14 at 5.10 a.m.
