Alibaba Group Holding has entered the robotaxi sector by investing in Hello, a ride-hailing firm backed by its fintech affiliate Ant Group, reports Hong Kong's South China Morning Post.
Hello said it had received a strategic investment from Alibaba. The two companies plan to collaborate on algorithm platforms and smart driving large language models to support commercialisation and scaled operations of autonomous taxi fleets.
The move comes amid intensifying competition between Chinese and US tech firms to bring driverless taxis to market. Tesla is expanding robotaxi trials in Texas and California, while Waymo, backed by Google parent Alphabet, continues to develop its self-driving services.
