THE International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported on Monday that african airlines experienced a 5.7 per cent year-on-year decline in air cargo demand in February 2025, reports the Lagos Daily Vanguard.
IATA also noted a 0.6 per cent drop in cargo capacity for the region-the first year-on-year decrease since mid-2023.
In its latest global air cargo market data for February 2025, IATA said total demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometres (CTKs), slipped 0.1 per cent compared to February 2024.
'February saw a small contraction in air cargo demand, the first year-on-year decline since mid-2023,' said IATA director general Willie Walsh.
'Much of this is explained by February 2024 being extraordinary - a leap year that was also boosted by Chinese New Year traffic, sea lane closures and a boom in e-commerce.'
