CSCL, Yang Ming, PIL and Wan Hai Lines are to shelve their joint Asia-Black Sea service, branded respectively as ABX, CBX, SB1 and SBS, in the wake of a reshuffle triggered by the launch of the 2M and Ocean Three shipping alliances.
Eight carriers are involved in the reshuffle, namely Maersk Line, MSC, CMA CGM, CSCL, UASC, Yang Ming, PIL and Wan Hai Lines.
The joint Asia-Black Sea service deployed between six to nine 5,500-6,000 TEU ships on a nine-week rotation, with skipped sailings during weeks with missing ships, reported Alphaliner.
This service becomes redundant for CSCL with the launch of an alternative Asia-Black Sea service within the framework of the 'Ocean Three' alliance bringing CMA CGM, CSCL and UASC together, under the respective brands of BEX/ABX/AMC5.
The new loop will be operated with 11 Bosporus-max units of 9,000-10,000 TEU, of which nine are provided by CMA CGM, one by UASC and one by Yang Ming.
CSCL will take slots on the service, with PIL also following it in the wake of the ABX closure.
Wan Hai has yet to confirm its plans.
As a result, CMA CGM is scrapping the joint service it operated with Maersk Line (BEX/AE-3). Maersk, meanwhile, is launching its own service, branded AE-3, with MSC taking slots under the 2M agreement, branding it Great Sea.
This service is combined with a transpacific loop, branded TP-9 by Maersk and Eagle by MSC, with a pendulum swinging in 15 weeks with 15 ships of 4,500-5,000 TEU, all provided by Maersk Line.
