MAERSK Line and MSC, of the 2M Alliance, will suspend one of their six weekly services from Asia to North Europe on October 1.
With the other two alliances announcing voided sailings in early October's Golden Week holidays, 2M has opted for a 'structural solution'.
It will see eleven 18,300- to 20,600-TEU ships pulled from service as of week 39.
'We believe that by implementing a structural solution is in line with lower seasonal market demand,' said Maersk Line chief operating officer Soren Toft.
The AE2 service would 'resume in line with demand pickup', which it said it expected to be 'pre-Chinese New Year' in early February, said Maersk.
MSC said its Swan service would be subject to a 'temporary structural adjustment', which could see a resumption of the loop 'towards the end of the year'.
The carriers added that bookings made for ships on the AE2/Swan loop would be carried by vessels on their other five strings.
2M is also cancelling its AE5/Albatross westbound sailing in week 40. And Maersk unit Hamburg Sud has also sent out a customer advisory about the service suspension, but slot purchaser HMM has so far not advised its customers of the cancellation.
