It was reported that the Liberian-flagged 2007-built container ship Mozart which is operated by Istanbul-based Boden Maritime was attacked by pirates while sailing 100 nautical miles off the Gulf of Guinea Sao Tome on the morning of January 23.
It was announced that the pirates boarded the ship and the ship was dragged.
The Liberian-flagged M/V Mozart ship which its crew is consisting of Turkish sailors, was attacked by the pirates in the Gulf of Guinea on the West African coast. The 222-meter-long M/V Mozart which was carrying the cargo it was loaded from Nigeria's Lagos port to the Cape Town port of the Republic of South Africa. Sea bandits kidnapped 15 sailors and left 3 for the management of the ship.

4. Officer Furkan Yaren was contacted. Furkan Yaren said that 2nd Engineer Farman Ismayalov lost his life and he was injured in his leg. Explaining that they kidnapped 15 of the crew from the ship, 4th Captain Furkan Yaren said that only Chief Engineer Süha Tatlıgül and the oilman remained. He also said that the oilman had hit his body with shrapnel. 4. Officer Furkan Yaren stated that the pirates disconnected navigation devices such as Radar and ECDIS and they were cruising blindly.
