10,000-14,000 TEU containerships to be 'workhorses': Seaspan
SEASPAN predicts that the deployment of containerships with capacities in the range of 18,000 to 20,000 TEU will remain restricted to a limited number of ports on the Europe-Far East tradelane and they will not become the "747"s of the shipping industry.
The major non-operating ultra large containership (ULCS) owner is adamant that they do not have the flexibility of the 10,000-14,000 TEU vessels that have become the workhorses of a growing number of liner trades, reports Dynamar.
This will include those operating through an enlarged Panama Canal, which will be able to accommodate boxships of up to 13,020 TEU.
