On Aug 9, 2017, the "Verona 1" suffered water ingress in the Baltic Sea off Sassnitz. The ship entered the port of Sassnitz for investigations with the foreship considerably down and berthed at the North Jetty. Divers were sent down to find out the cause of the water ingress in the cabin area which was thought to have originated from a breach in a ballast water tank. The volunteer fire rescue Breege laid out an oil boom. en. The HAPS company from Stralsund supplied 12 tanks for one ton oil polluted water each, later a special vehicle arrived from Rostock which could contain a further 20 tons. On the whole 30 tons were pumped out of the foreship within eight hours. The ship was detained until investigations and repairs were carried out.The ship sailed again from Mukran bound to Gdynia on Aug 12 at 10.15 a.m.
