People trying to get off of the San Juan Islands and back to Anacortes were stranded for hours in the morning of Apr 22, 2018, because the 'Yakima' was taken out of service until further notice. Customers waiting to load onto the ferry at Orcas Island had to wait for eight or more hours, along with an estimated 100 other cars, because of the problem. A temporary schedule was in effect for Apr 23. Sailing times have been adjusted to prioritize domestic travel in the San Juan Islands, canceling the international sailing to and from Sidney, British Columbia. Reservation holders that are not able to travel due to the service disruptions will not be charged the no show fee. The inter-island vessel will sail as scheduled.
