Turkey has just been re-elected into the 21-seat IALA Council for a 4-year term, where will serve a four-year term from 2018 to 2022. The election was held during the 13th Session of the IALA General Assembly on 29 May 2018, in Incheon, the Republic of Korea.Membership of the Council will enable Turkey to continue to contribute to IALA’s mission of ensuring that seafarers are provided with effective and harmonised marine aids to navigation worldwide for safe navigation and protection of the environment. Through its mission, IALA fosters safe, economic, and efficient movement of vessels for the benefit of the international maritime community.IALA stands for International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities. IALA is a maritime NGO, which brings together maritime authorities, manufacturers, consultants and researchers from all over the world. The goal is to promote the exchange of experiences and results related to safe navigation and safety at sea across professional groups and expertises.IALA is the international association that develops guidelines for aids to navigation, vessel traffic management and training/certification. It is also looking at next generation navigation concepts such as e-navigation which is important to us. IALA is based at St Germain-en-Laye, close to Paris, France.Turkey was elected to IALA Ocuncil first time in 2006 and ever since then with 4 year intervals. This year, competition for Council Seats was intense but Turkey, under the Chairmanship of Hızırreis Deniz, General Manager of Turkish Coastal Safety Administration, managed to be re-elected the council. Singapore has been elected to the 21-seats Council for the first time.
