The "Sheng Hai" sank on Dec 4, 2017, in position 37 07N 123 53E in the Yellow sea, halfway between Weihai and Incheon. Of the ten crew members, seven were rescued, three went missing, an SAR operation was underway. The South Korean Coast Guard received a distress call from the ship at 4.23 p.m. when it was 54 nautical miles off Socheong Island. Chinese SAR ships were first on the scene in the area which is is a joint responsibility of China and South Korea SAR. Also Korean SAR forces were dispatched. About a dozen containers from the ship were drifting near the sinking site.
