Silversea Cruises is to insert a pre-built block of guest accommodation into the middle of Silver Spirit, marking the first time that the line has lengthened a ship. To be inserted during a dry dock at Fincantieri’s Palermo yard in Italy next March, the 49-foot-long block will house six Silver Suites, 26 Veranda Suites and two Panorama Suites. The shipyard’s team will also carry out other technical upgrades. “The lengthening of a ship always entails a rare level of complexity in a sector with already high technological content as the cruise one is,” said Giorgio Rizzo, senior vice president of services at Fincantieri. “Today our group and the Palermo shipyard boast an established and recognised experience in this kind of operations, confirmed by the project that Silversea has assigned us. We are particularly proud of it because we will supervise it entirely, from design to its full execution, to the delivery to the shipowner.”
