75pc of pirate attacks in Asian waters, incidents rise 22cp in 2014

THERE was a 22 per cent year-on-year increase to 183 pirate attacks in Asian waters last year, 75 per cent of the global total, according to an intergovernmental anti-piracy group.

ATTACKS against small tankers off Southeast Asia seas have seen a rise in ship hijackings, with up to 21 in 2014 from 12 the year before, despite piracy at sea falling to its lowest level in eight years, according to figures from the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Maritime Bureau (IMB).

Outrage when France ordered to compensate pirates for delay in seeing judge

A DECISION by the European Court of Human Rights demanding the French government compensate Somali pirates because the French army took too long to bring them before a judge has been slammed by a group that seeks to assist victims of piracy for being "repugnant and insulting".
