Two small tugs were unable to pull the "Nabil J" back into the sea on Apr 24 after she ran aground on Sidon’s beach a day before. Khaled Bitar, who was assisting with the rescue the operations, warned that diesel could leak if the ship continued to slam against rocks, damaging the ship's structure. Rescue teams were currently waiting for a bigger tug to arrive from Jounieh port to help extract the vessel. However, windy weather meant that it would take about 10 hours for the tug to arrive. The ship, which holds 7,000 liters of diesel, ran aground oas it was preparing to enter the nearby port, due to heavy winds. The crew of nine refused to leave the ship.
