Philly Shipyard signs LOI to build up to 4 box ships for USWC-Hawaii trade

PHILLY Shipyard, based in Philadelphia, has entered into a Letter of Intent (LOI) with an unnamed US company to construct up to four new containerships that will operate on routes between the US west coast and Hawaii.

27 July 2017 - 22:00 - Update: 28 July 2017 - 04:42

The two firm orders are for vessels of 3,700 TEU with options to build two more ships. The first two ships are scheduled for delivery in 2020 and 2021. Their design will be similar to the two Aloha-class container vessels that the yard is building for Matson, Singapore's Splash 24/7 reported.

Philly Shipyard, part of the Norwegian conglomerate Aker Group, is America's second-largest shipyard and mainly produces container ships and tankers.
