DOMESTIC container throughput in the Philippines skyrocketed by 53 per cent in 2017 to 9.1 million TEU compared to the previous year.
But total cargo volume growth recorded by the country's ports remained largely flat from January to November 2017, reported Colchester's Seatrade Maritime News.
According to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), in the first 11 months of 2017 total cargo volume rose slightly to reach 227.3 million tons, up from 225.5 million tons a year earlier.
While domestic cargo traffic rose by 2.3 per cent, this was offset by flat growth in international cargo traffic.
International vessel calls increased by 1.23 per cent to 11,615 during the reporting period.
