Almost immediately after the "Ullensvang" was in a yard for two weeks, the main engine broke down on the way back to Hareid on May 29, 2017. She had to be taken in tow and was pulled back to Vegsund where extensive work had just been carried out on the main engine which was tested while the ferry lay at the dock. On May 28, ferry staff boarded the ship to sail it to Hareid. Shortly after the departure, an oil leak at the main engine was discovered. There were also error indicators from the system on board. Then the engine stopped, and the anchor had to be dropped´. The oil leakage was characterized as large. Indicators on the system also showed an overload of the engine.
