The purchase is made up of 14 containerships, 11 of which are 4,250-TEUers and three 3,450-TEUers with an average age of 9.5 years.
Five of the 4,2500-TEU ships are employed on charters that have staggered expirations in 2018 and early 2019 at a net daily charter rate of US$26,850, reported London's Port Technology International.
Said Navios CEO Angeliki Frangou: "We anticipate acquiring five 4,250 TEU vessels on May 15, 2017. This acquisition demonstrates our ability to source proprietary deals, and we are continuing to seek exposure in the container sector."
