MARSEILES-FOS' first half container volumes increased three per cent year on year in to 623,137 TEU, according to port statistics.
But first half cargo volume slipped three per cent to 39.13 million tonnes as general cargo rose one per cent to 9.2 million tonnes to be offset by liquid bulk, which fell three per cent to 23.4 million tonnes and dry bulk, which fell 10 per cent to 6.6 million tonnes.
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) volumes soared 31 per cent to 2.6 million tonnes thanks to rising European demand.
But other bulks like peat and fertiliser fell 14 per cent year on year to 1.6 million tonnes, but agri-bulk held steady at 450,000 tonnes thanks to a surge in wheat imports.
