New Hamad Port welcomes its first ship, the 14,000-TEU MSC Esthi
MEDITERRANEAN Shipping Company had the honour of being the first shipping line to call at Qatar's new Hamad Port when the 14,000 TEU MSC Esthi docked at Hamad Port Container Terminal 1.
At the request of Qatar Ports Management Company, the MSC containership sailed into the port in time for the facility's long awaited opening ceremony on December 1, reported Arabain Supply Chain.
The occasion marked the start of operations at the first phase of Qatar's US$7.8 billion port, which has an initial capacity of two million TEU. Upon completion of Container Terminal 2 and 3 ?scheduled for 2020 ?the port will have a total capacity of six million TEU.
