June 1 seminar in Antwerp on new SOLAS box weighing regulations
WITH implementation of the new SOLAS just two months away, an NGO to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), ICHCA International, has organised a seminar on June 1 in Antwerp, Belgium to discuss compliance, communication and contingency in relation to the mandatory container weighing regulations.
ICHCA International has been involved in drafting the new SOLAS VGM regulations and is now working alongside IMO and other key industry bodies to facilitate global implementation of this landmark container safety rule.
"Without proper planning, high inefficiency costs are inevitable, and the right VGM solution is vital," ICHCA explained.
Held at the OCHA Training Centre in Antwerp, the event will bring all the interested parties together to discuss in a highly focused, workshop-style debate, how to comply with VGM, capture and communicate data through the chain, and develop contingency plans ahead of the imminent deadline for container weight verification.
The confirmed speakers include: Lawyer and partner of transport & energy at AKD law firm in Amsterdam, Jos van der Meche; manager, LASSTEC Container Weighing Systems, Conductix-Wampfler, Beat Zwygart; and director, Exis Technologies, James Douglas.
Exis Technologies, a major developer of e-learning courses for the transport industry, is offering a new course from May that is designed to provide all the information needed to understand why this legal requirement was developed, its objectives and offer practical solutions.
