According to a contact entered in the seventh Regional Coast Guard Headquarters (Kitakyushu City), North Korean-registered cargo ship Jeong Gen (6558 tons, 26 people) was flooded in the south area of Goshima-shi, Fukue Island in Nagasaki prefecture , Sunk at around 5:45 am on December 12. All the crew members were North Koreans, two Japanese patrol boats rescued safely.Around 4:55 pm on November 11, headquarters was informed that it received a cargo ship distress warning from a ship sailing in the vicinity about 60 km southwest of Fukue Island.Rescue activities started using patrol boats and aircraft. The crewmembers left away from the ship with a lifeboat, and there was no injury. It was completely submerged in the sea area about 30 km southeast of Fukue Island.According to the coast guard headquarters, the cargo ship was on the way to rice from Motomura to Northern province of North Korea.A 6,558 ton cargo ship, the Chong Gen was transporting more than five thousand tons of rice from Nampo port on North Korea's west coast, to Wongsan in the east, according to the JCG, which is questioning crew members. The JCG said this may be the first ever time that large numbers of North Korean ship crew members have been rescued by Japanese authorities.
