23rd Congress of International Maritime Pilots' Association which started on 26th of September and held at Sheraton Grande Walkerhill hotel of Seoul has ended today.
The IMPA Flag has been delivered to the Head of Senegal delegation, where the Association will hold its 24th Congress in 2018.
The opening address of the Congress has been delivered by Mr. Kitack Lim, Secretary General of IMO.
IMPA President Simon Pelletier from Canada and Secretary-General Nick Cutmore also delivered speeches at the meeting.
There also has been changes in the IMPa executives.
The Senior Vice President from France, Capt. Frederic Moncany, has made an unexpected step-down from the seat and Captain Hans-Hermann Lückert from Germany has been elected as the Senior Vice President of the Association.
Captain Jean- Philippe Casanova from the Fréderation Francaise de Pilotes Maritimes and Captain Alvaro Moreno from the Panama Canal Pilots’ Association were also elected as the Vice-Presidents of IMPA for the nex 4 years of term.
Captain Istikbal: Wish success to my Colleagues!
Captain Cahit Istikbal from Turkey, who serves as the Chief Pilot of the Port of Istanbul currently and had served 12 years as the Vice-President at IMPA; congratulated Captain Luckert on his election and wished luck to all who elected as IMPA vice-presidents. Captain Istikbal stated the following:
"I served a long time at IMPA and these were the most beautiful days of my life. Unfortunatelly I could not participate the Seoul meeting due to my busy schedule. But my heart was there. IMPA is a very important Association in the support of maritime safety. All participants to the Congress made a great job. I wish success to my dear Colleague Simon who is at the helm of IMPA and Captain Lückert is a wiser choice to assist him. "
